"reality" Why?

I know everyone was is thinking that everyone is going to be doing a blog on Jersey Shore, but this is practically the only reality shore I watch the most! Considering the fact that the show is on ALL the time even on the days it doesn't premier. The show has marathons of multiple shows during the afternoon. My response to the show is that I am satisfied in being entertained I find the show providing comedy and enjoyed watching the show. Why do I enjoy watching people drink, have sex. Physical and socially abused others? This is because in today’s society these aspects have become social norms. Instead of taboos, or things that are not alright for people to do in the society. This is mainly because we are constantly subjected to once considered “terrible issues” and developed into social norms because of society has got aware of these issues and it doesn’t concern their involvement and harm them in anyways. My role of the view is to understand what it is like to drink at day hook up with random people, or practically the life the famous. You “live” the life of the characters of the reality show that make you to believe you are experience their real life when in “reality” the majority of the show is fake and altered. What makes this show alluring is the constant drama everyone is interested in drama because of the entertainment that as developed from that influence reality TV has impacted our thoughts. Why do we think these preposterous things are ok and we are just “use” to watching or hearing about this? For instance, CSI and other shows that portray reality have made us less empathic about crimes that are tragedies. When did all of this become “ok” or when did we decide to look past things that should be considered taboos? Also a subject that goes with this is a lesson we learned in sociology. We learned in sociology of how people are stereotypical. For instance, women are judged based on their looks. Why is that? When did this become a social norm to dye hair, do make up, and exercise to become extremely fit or skinny? Reality TV works because we choose to watch it because we actually believe what the display is “reality”. According to Snooki and the Jersey cast its “ok” to drink as work, drink and drive, and hook up with random people. Also funniest home video’s we sit back and laugh uncontrollable at people getting hurt. But the real question is why? What made us alter “taboo’s” to develop into social norms? Why are unethical things not considered forbidden? There are so many why questions to this subject.

  1. I think a lot of the reason people do watch Jersey Shore is because it relates to a lot of peoples lives with the drinking, sex and relationship issues. I however watch the show to laugh at it because I think they are some of the dumbest people on TV, except for Vinny and Pauly. I think they should have their own show. But by saying that I am playing my role as the viewer because I want to see the drama unfold, which means I am accepting the fighting as a social norm.

  2. It's hard to say, I know a lot of people watch the show just to laugh at how stupid they all are, but I think they also watch it to feel better about their lifes. As though they are using it to say at less my life is not as bad as that. With all the drama that happens every show I don't know how people can stand it. I don't see that much drama in a week as they show on Jersey Shore. Also they are so lazy about working at the t'shirt store, and that's all that they have to do to keep their partying life style and yet they complain about it like it is going to be the end of their lifes. As it goes for the home videos, AMV, does a great job of adding commentary to the clips and using sound effects to make you want to laugh. I think however for most clips we draw on event on our pass to make us laugh. though we may not of saran wrapped someone's car before but we get the idea of what it would be like, because we all have done some sort of funny prank on someone before.

  3. I do also agree with you that these shows are fake and altered. They only show the entertaining and important scenes. It makes the viewers seem like the cast is always doing fun stuff. But really for the most part these people live normal lives but the camera doesn't show this view. It is all business, viewers don't want to see the boring parts of these reality stars lives. That is way these episodes are only a hour long and which in real life are filmed over days or weeks in real life. The crew my tape their whole lives during the show but in no ways do they show the majority of what really happens.
